Franchise Owner Kathy Sheppard is closing the very popular Curves Northshore at 9307 S. Northshore Drive, in West Knoxville. This Curves franchise opened in May, 2005 under owner Kim Hookman, who sold the franchise in 2010 to Kathy Sheppard. Kathy Sheppard brought a business acumen to the business and a mind detailed to the bottom line.

This location of Curves was centrally located at the junction of Pellissippi Parkway and Northshore. The clientele was steady, loyal and consistent. The staff was cheerful, knowledgeable and professional. This was one of the most successful of the Curves franchise's.

North Castle Partners invested in Curves International in late third quarter 2012. They made changes to many of the franchises to make them more consistent along a brand line and brought in the Jillian Michaels workout.

A problem was corporate reimbursement. Programs such as the Silver Sneaker program for senior citizens will reimburse the franchisee only after a certain amount of verified workouts. The franchisee must pay corporate for every body who works out, whether or not the franchisee gets paid.

There is still a Curves on Emory Valley Road in Oak Ridge and a Curves in the Foothills Plaza in Maryville. The YMCA has been offering new deals for the Curves members.
