On Wednesday, August 20 at 5 p.m., Below the Radar Brewhouse (220 Holmes Ave NE, Huntsville) will host Curtisfest 2014 to celebrate the life of Curtis McArthur.

This past New Year's, the craft beer community, friends and loved ones lost Curtis McArthur in a tragic accident. Curtis entered the lives of countless craft beer enthusiasts throughout the Southeast and the country thanks to his job as a sales representative for SweetWater Brewing Company. Beyond his work, Curtis was one of the region's most dedicated advocates for craft beer and he had a profound impact on our blossoming beer culture. Thanks to his genuine smile and warm personality, you could rest assured that a first encounter with Curtis was going to lead to a friendship. We have all lost more than just a spokesman for all that is good in craft beer. We lost a good friend. His memory lives on in our thoughts and in the many events that have been held in his name since his passing.

To honor Curtis, Below the Radar has partnered with SweetWater Brewing Company to make Curtisfest 2014 a massive tap takeover from the Atlanta brewery. How massive? Well, this tap takeover featuring sixteen SweetWater brews will double Curtis's tap record of eight (previously achieved at Below the Radar in 2012) and break SweetWater's overall tap record of thirteen. The majority of the featured taps will consist of rare and limited offerings from the brewery's cellar and there will also be a special cask of the tribute offering Dirty Curty, their IPA dry hopped with almost every hop available in the brewery. In addition to the beer, there will also be commemorative t-shirts, koozies and bandanas available for purchase. Proceeds raised from the sale of these items will go to benefit the Curtis McArthur Memorial Fund.

**UPDATE 08/19** Here are the beers that have been confirmed so far:

  • IPA
  • Blue
  • 420 Extra Pale Ale

Curtisfest 2014 at Below the Radar is going to be a fantastic way to remember, honor, and celebrate the life of Curtis McArthur. If you are free on Wednesday, get your friends together and take part in this wonderful event by raising a glass to Curtis. Prost!
