Australian celebrity chef Curtis Stone spent some time chatting with Larry King about his new unnamed restaurant on “Larry King Now,” according to Eater on August 27. The restaurant will be small, 25-30 people and will have no menu. The restaurant will be on West Beverly Drive and Stone plans for it to be “all market driven.”
Curtis goes on to tell King that the plans to have no menu are in place because he wants customers to trust their chef. He’ll be preparing fresh food daily, all from in season items. The restaurant, set to open in late October or November, could have the name of Maude, after Stone’s grandmother who taught him to cook.
Larry King isn’t too fond of the name and kindly suggest Curtis call the restaurant Stone instead. King asks Curtis how often he plans on being at the new restaurant, Curtis replies with, “I’ll be there as much as I humanly can be.” Curtis plans to change his schedule and divide his time between his life and two year-old in Los Angeles with time spent in Beverly Hills.
Stone misses the small intimate settings with the camaraderie between the chef and his staff. He’s hoping to get back to the basics and have a “feel good” business.
What do you think; should Curtis name his new Beverly Hills restaurant Stone’s? Is he on to something with creating fresh food with no menu or do you feel people with frown on that?
