Love's in the air, even with the cold temperatures, and there are plenty of events in Detroit this Valentine's Day weekend that have at least a little something to do with the celebration of love. Perhaps the most eccentric one on the calendar is Cupid's Undie Run, in which participants will race a 1-mile course without proper pants to raise money for the Children's Tumor Foundation. Dan Gilbert has pledged to match dollar for dollar all runners in Cleveland and Detroit who raise $500 to $1,000, according to the run's website. As of Wednesday night, Weather.com predicts a high of 23 degrees Fahrenheit for Saturday.
There is still time to catch the Dirty Show at the Russell Industrial Center, with the final night this year being Saturday night. There are many highly talented artists in the show, including Michelle Tanguay. Also on Saturday night, at Corktown Studios, painter Kelly Guillory and photographer J Singleton show their love of the city of Detroit with a painting and a photograph that shows a woman as the Spirit of Detroit. Tanguay also figures in this show, as Guillory painted a portrait of her.
This Valentine's Day, consider giving the gift of life with a blood donation to the American Red Cross. There are a few blood drives scheduled on Friday, including one at the Ford Fairlane Plaza in Dearborn near the Fairlane Town Center.
