In the main event of UFC on Fuel TV, former Strikeforce middleweight champion Cung Le scored the biggest win of his career by knocking out former UFC middleweight champion Rich Franklin. This was the UFC's first trip to China and the main event was short but still delivered some excitement.
The CotaiArena at the Venetian Macau Resort Hotel in Macau, China was the host venue that saw Cung Le and Rich Franklin face off in the main event of the evening. Franklin came out looking smooth and light on his feet while Le seemed to be pacing himself more for a five round war.
Franklin was successful early on with his combinations but is was a stray low kick where he left his hands low that gave Le the opening he needed to land an overhand right that was right on the target. Franklin was out before he hit the floor. The official stoppage came at 2:17 of the very first round.
Le was humble in victory telling John Anik during the post-fight interview, "I don't even know what to say. Lucky punch, I guess. I came in and waited for him to punch, and I just came in with the overhand right and caught him."
This was without a doubt the biggest win in the MMA career of Cung Le. It is his second win in a row in the UFC. His professional record now stands at 9-2.
For Rich Franklin the question is will he continue to fight? During the post-fight interview Jon Anik asked him exactly that. "I'll have to go home and go to the drawing board and talk to my coaches and make an intelligent decision," Franklin told Anik, obviously very disappointing in being knocked out in the first round.
With this loss, Franklin moves to 29-7 for his career. He has gone 3-3 now in his last six fights.
UFC on Fuel TV 6 aired Saturday morning live on Fuel TV.
