A Cumming woman was killed Thursday in a three-vehicle collision that involved a school bus on Ga. 9 in Forsyth County.
And investigators on Friday are trying to determine what caused the wreck that killed Ms. Lesia Bennett and injured a 17-year-old.
The incident happened shortly before 4:50 p.m. at the intersection of Ga. 9 and North Old Atlanta Road, according to the Forsyth County Sheriff’s Office.
Mr. Antonio Aguilera Mora, 17, of Cumming, was traveling southbound on the highway in a 2004 Nissan Titan at the same time Ms. Bennett, 43, was driving a 2000 Mercury Mountaineer eastbound on North Old Atlanta Road, Deputy Michael Nelson said.
At that point, the Forsyth County School bus, being driven by Ms. Sheila Trowell, 46, was waiting at a traffic light on Ga. 9 to make a left turn onto North Old Atlanta Road.
The two vehicles collided at the intersection on Ga. Hwy. 9, causing the Mercury Mountaineer to hit the front passenger side of the school bus, Deputy Nelson said.
Mr. Mora was transported to Northside Hospital where he was treated and released. Ms. Bennett, who was not wearing her seatbelt, was pronounced dead at the hospital, Deputy Nelson said.
The collision resulted in the closing of Ga. 9 at North Old Atlanta Road for approximately two hours, he said.
