Cumberland Presbyterian Church announces dates for 3 ministries targeting hunger

In the flurry of activity that goes with the final weeks and days of the school year, it might be easy to miss some very important information about what happens not too long after school recesses for the summer.

The Cumberland Presbyterian Church announced today that the community meal would be on Saturday, 31 May 2014 from 11:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. The menu is currently slated to be a potato bar with extras, but this meal is more than a meal.

It is also the sign up for the summer program called Chewy Tuesdays. Chewy Tuesdays delivers meals to children in Burns Flat every Tuesday beginning on 3 June 2014 and ending on 4 August 2014. These are simple meals but the ministry team has insisted that every meal include fruit. The price of fruit has removed this item from the shopping list of many families.

There is another ingredient in this program: Love. Every meal is delivered to the children with a simple message—God loves you.

The third part of this equation is that any family with some latch key kids can pick up a bag of Pop Tarts and Peanut Butter during the meal. Many children are left at home unattended while mom and dad head off to work. Pop Tarts and Peanut Butter are both “kid friendly” foods that can be eaten without cooking.

The Cumberland Presbyterian Church reminds everyone in Burns Flat to Save the Date: 31 March 2014.

The meal is from 11:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. Stop by the CUMBERLAND PRESBYTERIAN CHURCH and enjoy a simple meal that you did not have to prepare. Then talk to us about us bringing your children a meal every Tuesday during the summer. We would love to help feed your kids and tell them that GOD LOVES THEM at the same time. If you can’t make it in on the 31st, just stop in and see Tom Spence at the Cumberland Presbyterian Church sometime this month. You don’t have to bring anything to ‘qualify’ for these programs. Chewy Tuesdays delivers in Burns Flat. The community meal is for anyone in the Burns Flat – Dill City area.

The motto of the Cumberland Presbyterian Church in Burns Flat, Oklahoma is GOD’S LOVE IN ACTION.
