I love Knoxville, one of the reasons I love it is that it is so close to the biggest Mountains on the east coast. Often overlooked, however, because of the Smokey Mountains to the East, are the smaller mountain ranges to the north. Giant resort towns like Gatlinburg are fun, but crowded. Cades Cove is great too, but traffic can get pretty bad in the loop.  Sometimes you need a quiet little getaway with attractions and appeal all its own, a place like Cumberland Gap, Tennessee.

Just north of Harrogate on your map of Tennessee, Cumberland Gap is the town from which you can approach the tri-state peak where Tennessee, Kentucky and Virginia all meet. After a short hike you can stand in three states at once! There is also the Cumberland Gap National Historic Park and the Pinnacle, another easy hike.

If you do decide to head up to Cumberland gap, be sure to stay at the warm, spacious, comfortable and richly historic Olde Mill Inn Bed & Breakfast.

We had a chance to spend a night at the Olde Mill and hike to the tri state speak and wake up to a dusting of fresh snow, what a great way to spend a weekend! Check out our slideshow below and be sure to spend a few days in the Gap so you can do all the hikes and have one day to just loaf around, soak in a tub and chat with the friendly owners at the Olde Mill.
