French folk-rockers, Revolver, delighted the audience with their smooth vocals and sweet sentiments. They are a perfect band for an acoustic set since they have a cellist instead of a bassist, which allows for bass notes to be sustained with a bow in addition to plucking. They even threw in some harmonica.
They sound like an American folk-rock band akin to Crosby, Stills and Nash. They also cover the Beatles with sweet aplomb and lovely, smooth, well-blended tri-part vocals. They are warm and friendly, inviting the audience to sing along if they know a tune.
And yes, Revolver is a reference to the Beatles. The lead singer, Ambroise, says he has a poster of The Beatles recording Revolver in his bedroom, though in many ways they sound more like Rubber Soul Beatles than Revolver Beatles. The return of folk rock seems to have captivated kids worldwide. The slight French accent in their singing adds to their uniqueness and appeal along with forgoing a drummer. Yet another ideal band for a festival called Culture Collide.
Their album, Music for Awhile is definitely worth a few listens. And they're sure to find fans and friends wherever they go. They weren't even on the pre-printed program. Life is full of pleasant surprises at the Culture Collide Festival.
Check them out at revolvermusic.tv and www.myspace.com/popdechambre Their video for “Get Around Town” is nothing short of priceless as they drive through the French countryside in a vintage American car.
