Most than ever global society needs today a new fundamental theory of culture which can embrace the stability of western civilization and with strong arguments to explain why Oswald Spengler was wrong when presumed that western civilization would end.
Spengler’s static understanding of culture created general misunderstanding of humandise, since history shows clear genetic diachronic and synchronic links between the leading civilizations, as well as neither nature nor society gives example of an end of one system and beginning of another system without any genetic and interactive links. The theory of Spengler is artificial, although it has a value in focusing on culture - not on history as sequences of events. Also, studying of the so-called decline in many cases reveal the grains of progress of the human civilization. The scale of global changes is also a subject for discussion, since prehistory and history point to existed 500 (not 1,000) years of a period in which the cultural pattern can be reproduced with a leading role of the traditions, or in which the initial quality innovations have been reproduced as traditions. However, this historical span may have different explanations for the different historical period and way in which they have completely different meaning.
Research problem: Mobility of wealth on the scale of human values
One of the key arguments for the stability and security of the western civilization would be the mobility of wealth on the scale of human values.
Everybody wants to be rich, although to be rich for the people does not mean only materially rich. Humans have a whole system of wealth as a material, moral, intellectual, kinship and social values. The economic system of the capitalism makes some people believe in the material wealth at certain moment as an opportunity to win from the lottery only, but usually these social segments replace the material wealth dream with moral values and/or put their ambitions on their children. On the whole, people want to be happy and happiness does not mean only material wealth.
Addicted to drugs would feel happy when successfully go through, for instance, a program against drug addiction which can be completely covered by donations, like in the case with Utah Rescue Mission of salt Lake program.
It takes 13 months for the addicted participants to complete the program and many leave the Rescue Mission of Salt Lake’s House as completely new personalities. They feel rich although without a penny in their pocket since can go again on the road of making for living and accumulating and communicating values – material, moral or social.
Then, culture is an abstract category and it needs to be filled with contents according to real social contexts. Culture means quality people although quality people mean different things in different context. This theoretical perspective is different than the one that put Oswald Spengler in the tunnel of closed systems which emerge, develop and die. Culture - like the nature - is plastic, it has constructors of humandise which are able to make human culture not only adaptable, but creative to a level of complete new appearance although having millions of years of human experience. Progress may exist not leading or all components of the top-like cultures from global perspectives. The culture looks like a forest where some threes die, but others grow and may change completely the picture. In such forest wealth values could be even under the earth and under wood – in other words the true value may characterize not the strongest social voices.
Spengler was not right in his negative picture of the future of the western civilization, because he looked at culture as a static category and at people as a reproducer of values which had lost their meaning. However, culture is a dynamic contextual category, while people not only reproduce – they in fact mostly produce values with new or changing parameters according to the social context.
