The Call of Culture: “Nothing but the Best.”
“Your attitude should be the same as that of Christ Jesus: Who, being in very nature God, did not consider equality with God something to be grasped, but made himself nothing…” (Philippians 2:5-7).
“But the angel said to her,…’You will be with child and give birth to a son, and you are to give him the name Jesus.’” (Luke 1:31).
He who created the world entered the world…created. And to boot…born not to Cleopatra but to Mary.
The Call of Culture: “Nothing but the Best.”
The Life of Christ: “Nothing but…Nothing.”
The Call of Culture: “Protect Your Pride.”
“And being found in appearance as a man, he humbled himself.” (Philippians 2:6).
Towel around His waist. Face at the feet of Judas. Eyes staring at the one who would run to sell the Son of God. Hands cupped with water…poured over those filthy feet…dried with the towel wrapped around His waist.
The Call of Culture: “Protect Your Pride.”
The Life of Christ: “Swallow It.”
The Call of Culture: “Comfort.”
“And being found in appearance as a man, he humbled himself…and became obedient to death—even death on a cross!” (Philippians 2:8).
In the Garden He begged the Father for an exit…He accepted the Father’s “No.” “Your will be done,” He said.
He submitted to the shackles: “Your will be done.”
He wore a crown of mockery: “Your will be done.”
Every lash of the scourging whip He chose: “Your will be done.”
Humiliation married to pain on a most rugged Cross He accepted: “Your will be done.”
The sins of every human heart sullied His perfection: “Your will be done.”
For His tormentors…words of grace spoken by the One was who one with the Father.
And all because Jesus said, “Your will be done.”
The Call of Culture: “Comfort.”
The Life of Christ: “Obedience.”
“Do not conform any longer to the pattern of this world…” (Romans 12:2).
