Sometimes an obsession with the ground is healthy, especially if that means keeping your eye out for great rugs that indelibly add to a room. Today Houzz has a few tips on using rugs to beautify your home, and they’re well worth checking out.
Writer Charmean Neithart writes: “Besides the fact that they have the ability to transform a space, rugs can define a style, soften an echo and even serve as a starting point for decorating a room.” When her clients think something’s missing, it’s usually a rug – which offers a cozy factor.
Here’s one of Neithart’s tips: If you find a rug that just hits you in the right way, pair it with a glass coffee table. “Why cover the beauty up with a piece of opaque furniture?” she asks. “Glass tables are not just for modern interiors. They work perfectly fine in traditional and transitional spaces, too.”
If you’re looking to expand your living space, pick a wide-striped rug, which makes a room feel wider with its statement of contrast. If you’re working with solid or patterned fabric, try a geometric pattern, which Neithart says may seem contrary but looks great.
The right rug size for your space is key. For example, if you’re buying a dining-room rug, make sure that the chairs will be able to slide in and out without catching the edge. Check out Neithart’s column for more tips.
