Sauteed Bananas with Maple Praline sauce is rich, decadent, and exquisite. This dessert is an upscale banana split. What's so great about this dish is that it is a recipe from the Food Network website courtesy of Gourmet Magazine. That means that you can make it at home.
It is not a recipe that should be made by those who are going for immediate gratification. The Maple Praline Sauce takes 18 - 20 minutes to cook on the stove top. This sauce is totally worth the wait. There is a depth of flavor and a richness that cannot be bought off the shelf at your local grocer in the ice cream section.
This recipe does not have alot of ingredients. It calls for maple syrup, heavy cream, chopped pecans, bananas , vanilla ice cream, (optional), and banana chips, (optional).
As you may have already guessed, it is not lacking in calories either. The bananas are sauteed in 6 tablespoons of butter! That seems excessive, until the first batch of bananas is out of the pan and the second batch goes in. It becomes apparent that the 6 tablespoons is the perfect measure of that amount of bananas.
If texture is an important factor for you to enjoy your desserts, it should be noted that the banana breaks down considerably when being sauteed. They are very soft, even mushy, but taste great!
Whenever you use a recipe you can follow it to the letter or make adjustments to fit your needs. Maybe you can substitute plantains for bananas. You could buy pecans with a praline coating on them. Also, you could switch the ice cream from the vanilla flavor which is listed in the recipe, to a praline flavor. That would add more layers of praline to punch up the flavor even more.
Sauteed Bananas wih Maple Praline Sauce is a great dessert for special occasions...Enjoy!
