When paying a visit to the historic city of Philadelphia, be sure to save some time and room for some of the area's local culinary delights. Most people instantly recognize the iconic Philly Cheesesteak, but the region boasts some other yummy delights.
City Food Tours offers the Flavors of Philly Tour that will introduce you to some of the region's best known foods. Not only will you get a taste of the popular foods in Philadelphia, but you will still get a taste of the city's important history.
The Flavors of Philly tour lasts around 2 1/2 hours and consists of mostly eating, with only 30 minutes of walking! Guests will get to enjoy classic Philly foods like cheesesteaks and cheese whiz fries, tomato pie, soft pretzels, chocolate-covered hard pretzels, and the Famous 4th Street Cookies.
Guests will learn how to eat like a local and visit places off the tourist path. You will get some insight to Philly's food history and hear some stories how these iconic foods came to be. City Food Tours also promises to provide some insider tips about where the locals eat and provide you with a tasting experience from the independently owned culinary gems that Philadelphia residents are so proud of.
On the tour, you will visit a mom-and-pop pizzeria, a soft pretzel bakery, the historical Reading Terminal Market, and much more. There is even an up-close look at City Hall, which is the second largest municipal building in the United States.
The Flavors of Philly Tour is held Monday through Sunday from 1:30pm until 4:00pm. The tour is not designed for children under 10 years of age, so you if you have really young ones, contact City Food Tours for private tour arrangements.
