Culinary festival “FEAST! Vail” kicks-off Memorial Day Weekend

FEAST! Vail kicks-off the summer season on Memorial Day weekend, May 23 through 26, 2014. This culinary celebration continues the tradition of inspiring guests with a weekend packed with delicious experiences and signature Vail adventure activities. Renowned Vail chefs collaborate with some of the state’s best culinary talent and will be joined by masters of the vine, small-batch spirits producers, cocktail artisans and craft beer experts, all game for adventure, from the kitchen table to the mountain trail.

“Everyone knows about the adventure-side of Vail’s summer with climbing, fishing and hiking, but Vail has also built a reputation for culinary excellence, so we wanted to combine these two aspects in one fantastic weekend,” said event producer James Deighan of HIGHLINE. “Participants will not only be treated to some exceptional food and drink, but they also have the opportunity to climb, hike and take a fly-casting clinic with some of the best chefs in the nation. FEAST! is a true Vail-lifestyle experience.” This year's participating chefs include:

Top Chef contestant and two-time James Beard Award-winner Kelly Liken of Vail’s Restaurant Kelly Liken will take part in the FEAST! Vail weekend, highlighting the healthy balance of work and play. “In my career, I’ve had the good fortune to be able to live and work almost anywhere,” says Liken. “Yet I choose to live in Vail where you can experience the glorious mountains and rivers, along with some of the tastiest recipes around.” Liken hosts Casting and Cuisine, a fly-casting clinic on Sunday, May 25.

FRIDAY, MAY 23

6-9PM: The Sebastian Vail: Small Plates, Big Valley Flavors

This ultimate small plates experience will kick off the holiday weekend in delicious style. Enjoy a mouthwatering small plate tasting presented by celebrated Vail Valley and talented guests chefs, including Brian Busker of Matsuhisa; Kelly Liken of Restaurant Kelly Liken; Carrie Shores of Table 6; and Paul C. Reilly of beast + bottle. No feast would be complete without sips and tunes… so we’ve added wines, microbrews, handcrafted cocktails and live bluegrass to the mix! To top it off, you’ll have the opportunity to choose your favorite bite and help us crown, FEAST’S Best Bite.

SATURDAY, MAY 24

8:30-11:30AM: Tavern on the Square, Lionshead: Trail Mix

Warm up for the day of culinary action with an intimate hike up Vail Mountain with trail experts, Mike Kloser and Ellen Miller, as well as FEAST! chefs. Upon completion, you’ll be rewarded with a breathtaking view, brunch, and signature beverages. Trail Mix has limited space, and is open to all ability levels.

9-10AM: Yoga for a Cause Presented By Vitality Center

Begin your day in the mountain air with local yogis and an hour-long class for all abilities – followed by a refreshing treat. This community event is first-come, first-served. Be sure to bring your own mat. No ticket is necessary; all donations raised will benefit Vail Veterans Program.

11-11:45AM: “Sides” – Session 1

Choose 1 of 4 custom seminars giving each guest hands-on experience from experts in the field. This intimate event is sure to not only educate but also give each person in attendance a one-of-a-kind experience that they won’t soon forget.

6-9PM: The Sebastian Vail: Colorado Craft Brews & Spirits Tasting

New this year to the FEAST! Vail portfolio is the Colorado Craft Brews & Spirits Tasting. This event will showcase Colorado’s finest breweries and distilleries, including Aspen Brewing Company; Brewery Rickoli; Durango Brewing Company; Front Range Brewing; Funkwerks; High Hops Brewery; Renegade Brewing Company; Revolution Brewing; Tivoli Brewing Company; Trinity Brewing Company; Altitude Spirits; Black Canyon Distillers; Boathouse Distillery; Breckenridge Distillery; Dancing Pines Distillery; Feisty Spirits; Peak Spirits; and Roundhouse Spirits.

Hosted in the heart of Vail, guests will have the opportunity to sample beers and spirits that are homegrown in the state of Colorado. Work your way though the evening and pick your favorite. Representatives will be on hand pouring and letting you know where you can pick them up for your next summer event.

SUNDAY, MAY 25

8:30-11:30AM, Vail Athletic Club & Terra Bistro, Vail: Belay and Brunch Presented By Vitality Center

Take the holiday to new heights with a custom indoor climbing experience with expert guides as well as FEAST! chefs. Once you’re back on solid ground, you’ll be rewarded with a mouthwatering brunch and signature beverages to quench your thirst. The event has limited space, so secure your place! The event is open to all ability levels.

9-10:30AM: Casting Clinic, Gore Creek Promenade, hosted by Restaurant Kelly Liken and Fly Fishing Outfitters

Begin your day with a custom fly-fishing clinic with some of the best-known local anglers from Fly Fishing Outfitters as well as renowned local chef, Kelly Liken. They’ll share tales from the river, casting techniques and more. So bring your appetite for adventure and for the Vail Valley lifestyle. This event is open to all ability levels

12-1:15PM, Bol Vail: Pinot Boot Camp

Back by popular demand, Pinot Boot Camp returns to bring a fun, interactive immersion tasting that celebrates one of the world’s most popular varietals. Join master of the vine, Nick Noesen, as you dive deep into all things Pinot: providing a window into the capacity of Pinots to reflect the unique characteristics on the regions they are grown, and different styles and personalities that are reflected in the pours. Event includes full-bodied cheeses to round out the palette and the experience.

Celebrate the holiday as you sample brunch items from different open-aired mess halls. Each mess hall will highlight a different branch of service with veteran chefs. These chefs will be paired with our local favorites to bring you a memorable and fitting brunch as you enjoy the sounds and spirit of live military bands. Happy Memorial Day!
