The Tampa Yankees began a three game series against the Daytona Cubs on Friday night and unfortunately the Cubs’ offense was too much for the T-Yanks as Tampa lost this one 5-1.
Branden Pinder (ERA 3.83) took the start in this matchup, working the first four innings allowing 6 hits and 5 runs and striking out 4 batters. The T-Yanks continued to struggle at the plate. Joel De La Cruz (ERA 3.58) worked the next three innings with just one hit allowed as he struck out 7 of the 10 batters he faced.
In the bottom of the 7th, the T-Yanks were finally able to get on the board when Tyson Blaser scored after Ali Castillo grounded out.
Alex Smith (ERA 4.94) closed out the 8th and 9th innings but Tampa just didn’t have enough offense to get more runs on the board. Pinder is charged with the loss (1-2).
The Tampa Yankees will take on the Daytona Cubs in the second game of the series on Saturday night at 6:00pm with Rafael De Paula (ERA 5.67, 1-2) taking the start against former T-Yank pitcher Corey Black (ERA 4.10, 5-8).
