Cuban music experience Feb.15-17th 2012 at auraria campus

Cuban Music Experience, one of the best annual music events in Colorado, is being held at Auraria Campus starting February 15th through the 17th, sponsored by the University of Colorado and CU Denver Live!  Two concerts, and various free music clinics that cover various topics of Latin Music surely offer a true experience to remember.  Performers are renowned, refined, classically trained musicians;  John Benitez, Brian Lynch, Michael Spiro, and Jesus Diaz are the featured musicians performing at the concerts and hosting the music clinics.

This event, which is truly a musical treat, would not be possible without the passion and devotion of Peter Ellingson and Tom Van Shoick.  They started to hold this event since 2004 and it has been successful ever since then.  Peter handles the budget and advertising, while Tom handles the logistical details of the equipment.  Given all the hardwork and painstaking detail it takes to host the Cuban Music Experience, what is the motivation behind this event?  Peter says he's attracted to latin music because of "[...] the danceable groove of the music and the melodic interest of the music...but Cuban music and various other Latin styles seem to have the perfect blend of ingredients for my taste," adding that "the Cuban Music Experience has always been an event that combines the performance and teaching of Cuban music."

Night of Cuban Music, the first concert of the Cuban Music Experience, will be held on February 16th at 7:30pm at King Center Concert Hall; Timbalive will be held on February 17th at Tivoli Turnhalle.  These beats are sure to make the crowd want to dance!  Timbalive concert has a salsa dance lesson at 7:30pm by experienced dance instructor Joseph Snowhawk, with the concert starting at 8:30pm and a dance floor at the venue.  Each concert costs $5 for UCD students, and $12 for general admission, which includes validated parking at the 7th street parking garage.  The prices are very generous for two concerts and free clinics because the university "believes in the quality and importance of this music and is supporting it so that everyone can come to learn and enjoy" says one of the organizers, Peter Ellingson.

Fans of latin music can attend the various "clinics" for free during the day time, held February 15th through the 17th at Auraria Campus for a true experience.  Topics of the clinics are instrument specific, rhythm section, discussion of timba style, and musicians performing and discussing various aspects of the music.  Fans will have a chance to have intimate interactions with the featured musicians.  Full schedule of the clinics are available at http://www.CubanMusicExperience.com

Peter Ellingson plays every Sunday from 9pm to midnight at Dazzle with the Manuel Lopez Latin Jazz Trio, incorporating a mixture of traditional and modern elements of Cuban and jazz into their performances.  This trio consistently adds new compositions and new approaches to their music.
