Mar 5, 2011 – The exhibit Cuba y Cubans: Photographs by Juan Luis Garcia opens today Saturday with a reception from 5 pm to 9 pm at Eastside Luv Wine Bar y Queso, in Boyle Heights.
The exhibit showcases 15 pictures shot in Cuba in 2009, when Garcia was presented with the opportunity to take stills for a documentary. The portraits are accompanied by a book that includes 80 more. They picture people in every day situations in Cuba – cigar rollers, children at play, sex workers, and farmers.
The 25-year-old Garcia is a self-taught photographer who began to work professionally in 2004. Ever since, he has worked for the likes of Andy Garcia and Eva Longoria. He has been associated with photo l.a. since 2005 and created art collective Hecho Con Ganas with his friend Ernesto Yerena.
The Eastside Luv Wine Bar y Queso is located at 1835 E. 1st St, Los Angeles, CA. The exhibit will be open Wednesday, Thursday, Saturday and Sunday from 8 pm to 2 am and Fridays from 5 pm to 2 am until March 31.
