For anyone who spends enough time on Twitter, the natural impulse is a desire to meet the people you tweet: people who know everything about you from what links you find interesting to when you come down with a cold. The CT Tweetcrawl began as six people satisfying this desire by meeting over take-out and exchanging ideas. Now the events are attended by upwards of a hundred. Suzi Craig (@SuziCraig), director of marketing and engagement for Fathom, a marketing and creative consultancy firm, is the event founder. A myriad of twitter users from their 20’s to 60’s filled the bar at West Hartford’s Elements Bistro last month, all wearing “Hello, my name is” badges displaying their twitter handles. Mardi Gras beads were strung about many necks. A two foot high rectangular sheet of paper was taped to the wall with the words, “Where would you like to crawl next?” a multitude of sharpie markers in a cup on the table below.
The Tweetcrawl, which has a fanpage on Facebook and can also be found as @CTTweetcrawl is called “a happy hour with legs.” It is named a “crawl” instead of the usual “tweet-up” because this event is held in a different region of the state each time, with the intent to make it accessible to as many as possible. At these bimonthly(ish) events, you can meet people you tweet, tweet people you meet, and network. “It’s a mix of suits and creatives and entrepreneurs who are just hanging out and getting to know each other,” said Craig in a piece for the Hartford Advocate last September. “
“It’s the nicest and possibly coolest way to meet interesting people,” remarked Victor Dobarantu (@MyCaricature), a South Windsor based entrepreneur.
