On Wednesday morning, the Colorado Springs Police Department notified residents within a three-block radius of a Chelton Road address that a sexually violent predator would be residing in their neighborhood. This is the third time since 34-year-old Isadore Romero was released from prison in 2011 that the police have announced his location at this address.
According to the police, Isadore "Izzy" Eugene Romero was convicted in 2003 of attempting to sexually assault a 13-year-old female. Romero has had other convictions as well, including possession of a controlled substance and possession of marijuana with the intent to distribute. He is described as a Hispanic male, 5'5", 205 pounds, with numerous tattoos on his arms and wrists, as well as a "Gino" tattoo on his back.
The Police Department explains that sexually violent predators are the highest risk sex offenders. State law authorizes the department to notify the public when sexually violent predators move to a neighborhood in order to "enhance public safety and protection." Those who observe an offender engaging in high risk or inappropriate behavior are asked to contact the police immediately. However, the department warns, vigilantism or other efforts to harass offenders will not be tolerated.
