The Chicago Symphony Orchestra will perform an eclectic mix of movie music, classical standards, and children's programming during its upcoming June performances at the Morton Arboretum in Lisle, Illinois. Tickets go on sale today for the five concerts on June 27, 29, 30, and 2013.
The Thursday, June 27 at 7:30 p.m. performance features pieces by renowned film composer John Williams including music from Star Wars, Raiders of the Lost Ark, and E.T.: The Extraterrestrial. Richard Kaufman will conduct.
On Saturday, June 29 at 7:30 p.m., the CSO will perform an all-Tchaikovsky program under the direction of Carlos Miguel Prieto. Violinist Jennifer Koh will be the featured soloist for Tchaikovsky's Violin Concerto.
The entire family will enjoy the CSO's two performances of Goldilocks and the Three Bears from its Once upon a Symphony series on Saturday, June 29 at 11 a.m. and 12:45 p.m.. The shows offer a small ensemble concert experience designed specifically for families with children ages 3 to 5. The orchestra will offer another family program on Sunday, June 30 at 3 p.m.. Prieto will conduct the CSO in a program of dance music for the whole family including selections from Bizet's Carmen suites, Rimsky-Korsakov's Capriccio espagnol, and Danzón No. 2 by Mexican composer Arturo Márquez.
Tickets for the CSO concerts on June 27 and 29 are available at the early bird price of $25 through April 30. After May 1, tickets are $30. Morton Arboretum members and CSO subscribers can purchase tickets at $25 at any time.
Tickets for the June 29 Once Upon a Symphony concerts and the June 30 family concert are available at the early bird price of $15 through April 30. After May 1, tickets are $20. Morton Arboretum members and CSO subscribers can purchase $15 tickets at any time.
