Carmine Giovinazzo who plays Detective Danny Messer on the hit CBS crime drama "CSI:NY" was arrested for DUI on Jan. 21 according to police reports obtained by E! News and reported on Jan. 30. Giovinazzo, 39, was arrested in Scottsdale, Ariz. after police received a call about an impaired driver being sighted. The policeman observed him driving a Jeep Wrangler with two other passenger and was drifting across three lanes of traffic, so the officer pulled him over.
The police officer's report stated that Carmine was "immediately apologetic" and explained to him that the reason he was driving irregularly was because he was lost. He stated that he was fiddling with the GPS to try to figure out where he was. After the policeman noticed the smell of alcohol on his breath, his slurred speech and his watery bloodshot eyes, the officer questioned him. The celebrity admitted to having one or two scotches with his friends at the W Hotel.
Giovinazzo was given a field sobriety test and a Breathalyzer. He blew a 0.119 percent which is well above the Arizona legal limit of 0.08 percent. After that Carmine was taken into custody to a jail nearby and booked for driving under the influence after having his blood drawn. The jeep belong to a friend of his and was impounded.
In the police report, the arresting officer noted that the actor complied to his requests and "thanked me many times for not treating him like a criminal and showing him respect."
"Carmine was very polite and cooperative with me throughout the investigation," the officer wrote.
Since Giovinazzo plays a cop on TV, I guess he knows a thing or two about police procedures, so I'm not surprised. The actor lives in California and was given a citation and released from the jail about 4:30 a.m. on a signed promise to appear in court. No mention was made of when the hearing date is.
