Crytek: Next-gen launch games will look similar to 'Crysis 3' (Photos)

The first wave of games for the next generation of consoles won't look much better than the upcoming "Crysis 3," according to comments made Friday to CVG by Crytek CEO Cevat Yerli.

"I actually think people will be astonished that next gen launch titles from other companies might not be much different from 'Crysis 3," he told the site. "I don't think Crytek can do more on current generation of consoles than 'Crysis 3.'"

The company's upcoming shooter, which hits Feb. 19, is undoubtedly the best looking game available on consoles or PCs. Yerli has made comments in the past that he expects the upcoming release to set the graphics bar for at least the next three years, not unlike the original "Crysis" when it launched in 2007, melting every console in sight.

Yerli went on to say that he has proud of what his company has accomplished with "Crysis 3," especially the art style and environment -- a shift away from the rather mundane New York City urban areas into a more literal "urban jungle."

"'Crysis 3' has its own visual identity, (the urban rainforest) is a world that hasn't been done before, that kind of depiction, the quality and level of immersion. I think no game has ever done that kind of setting, it's a visual spectacle," he said. "It has not even been done in Hollywood. People might suggest there are similarities with 'I Am Legend,' but that is quite different to this. I Am Legend is overgrown, but Crysis 3's urban rainforest is a whole different level of that. It has its own identity and I'm very proud of what the team achieved in this regard."
