The City of Crystal Lake is kicking off a Centennial Celebration with a festival on the weekend of Fri.-Sun., Sept. 20-22, 2013. Crystal Lake is a community in McHenry County, in the far northwestern suburbs of Chicago, Ill.
A Centennial anniversary is a major landmark and Crystal Lake has plans to celebrate the occasion with events throughout the year. The celebrations are kicked off with the three day festival and music. Residents are encouraged to join in and celebrate the 100th birthday of Crystal Lake at the Kick-Off Festival at Three Oaks Recreation Area (5517 Northwest Hwy., Crystal Lake, Ill.). Festival hours are: Fri. (4-11 p.m.), Sat. (noon-11 p.m.) and Sun. (noon-6 p.m.).
The festival attractions include carnival rides, food from local restaurants and vendors, beer and wine tent, characters, kid's games and entertainment and music.
Hot air balloon rides will be offered on Fri. (6-7 p.m), weather permitting, first come, first serve. The donation of $10 will benefit the Crystal Lake Historical Society. The tethered balloon rides are sponsored by ReMax.
Music on the Main Stage is headlined by Pirates Over 40 (Fri. 7:30 p.m. ), Modern Day Romeos (Sat. 7:30 p.m.) and Libido Funk Circus (Sun. 4 p.m.). Main Stage admission is $5. Under 16 are admitted free. Seniors and military are admitted free with ID. Beer and wine will be available from the Lions.
The Beach area features activities for children, including characters, such as Star Wars characters and Wizzy and Wookie the Clown. There will be kite flying, children's music, magic shows, stilt walking, juggling and more at the beach on Sat.-Sun. (noon-6 p.m.).
Celebratory fireworks will be displayed on Sat. at sunset.
Parking is $10 on site, or park for free at the adjacent former Wal-Mart and take the shuttle to the festival grounds.
