August kicks off the beginning of harvest, a time when there are typically more wine tastings, festivals, and other wine related events. Here’s a summary of area wine tastings and events this month to keep the palate wet and ring in the beginning of this exciting season.
Cardinal Liquors at 305 W. Virginia in Crystal Lake is having a free wine and cheese tasting on Saturday, August 8th from 1:00 to 5:00 pm. This tasting is free to offer some relief to customers who are about to get hit with another liquor tax increase here in lovely Illinois. (Effective September 1st, 2009, the tax on beer will increase from $0.185 to $0.231 per gallon, on wine it will increase from $0.73 to a whopping $1.39 per gallon, and on spirits it will increase from $4.50 to $8.55 per gallon.) Happy drinking! So take advantage of this free tasting & stock up while you’re there because there’s a 15% discount on wines being tasted that day.
Binny’s at 975 S. Rand in Lake Zurich is having a “European Vacation” tasting on Thursday, August 20th from 6:30 to 8:30 pm. They will be offering up over fifty European wines and beers for tasting. They recommend making reservations for their tastings, so call 847-438-1437 or email firstname.lastname@example.org to make yours now. The cost is $5.00 for members and $10 for non-members. There is a 10% discount on wines tasted that day.
The Long Grove Wine and Fine Art event is on Saturday, August 15th and Sunday, August 16th, from 10:00 am to 6:00 pm, in the Long Grove Historic Village, at 307 Old McHenry Road in Long Grove.
