Cryptozoology--The Man of the Forest known as the Barmanou

The word “Barmanou” translates from Sanskrit generally meaning the “Man of the Forest”. The Barmanou also known as the Barmanu or Baddmanus is a bipedal cryptid much like Sasquatch or Bigfoot. They are reported to range the Hindukush and Karakoram ranges of the Pamirs and Himalayas. This puts them in the same area as the Almas of Central Asia and the Yeti of the Himalayas. They are considered to be the Bigfoot of Afghanistan and Pakistan. However, there seems to be some distinct differences. The Barmanou has been reported to wear animal skins around its body and head, and have kidnapped human women in an attempt to breed. The wearing of animal skins about their bodies does seem to indicate the species is of a higher intelligence lever than the ape, which may be compared to the development of early man.

The Barmanou likeness is described as being half man and half ape. Many believe the Barmanou is a kin to the Neanderthal or early man species. They are tall, muscular and walk uprightly. Many sightings report them as emitting a very strong, pungent odor much like rotting garbage. This characteristic may be compared to the Skunk Ape in the Southeast United States or the Bigfoot in the northwest. They also have been heard making low guttural noises which may indicate a language using vocal cords much like primitive type humans. Again another characteristic much like Bigfoot.

The local human populations of the Afghanistan and Pakistan have known about the Barmanou for centuries, but the outside world became aware of the spiecies through the works of Spanish Zoologist, Jordi Magraner in the early 1900’s. Dr Anne Mallasseand and Magraner conducted expeditions to pursue the Barmanou. Between 1992 and 1994 the team investigated sightings and found primitive looking footprints. They also reported hearing the low grumbles which they believe were made by a primitive voice box of the Barmanou. On 2 August, 2002, Magraner was murdered by one of the Pakistani guides. This tragic death caused the loss of most of the data Magraner had accumulated over the years. Since then the area has been plagued with wars and conflicts effectively stopping any further investigations of the creature.

With recent on-going DNA studies of Bigfoot has brought up an interesting point. One study states the Bigfoot species is much younger than the Homo sapiens Species. The Bigfoot species was created by an unknown Hominini male and a Homo sapien female, which may have taken place in the Middle east. Could the Barmanou be the father of the Bigfoot race?
