The Crypto locker virus is affecting thousands of people around the world and it is said to be one of the worst computer virus' ever. On Oct. 26, Web Pro News reported that the downloadable virus (which is also called "ransomware") basically holds your computer files "hostage" until you pay a fee to get them back. The virus is passed around by email and is faking people out because of the realistic nature of said emails.
"[They] have innocent enough looking senders, such as UPS or FedEx, but they’re not really from these corporations, of course. Instead, when you open the attachment, your computer becomes infected and the virus locks all your files until you pay a ransom," Web Pro News reports.
The Crypto locker virus threatens to destroy all of your computer files if you don't make a payment within 100 houra. The amount of money requested ranges from $100 to $700. If you have a back-up of your files, you're in luck and you will be able to restore your computer... otherwise you're in big trouble. You cannot access any files on your computer once the virus is downloaded.
"If you get an email from somebody you do not know, especially if it’s got attachments, don’t open anything with it, just delete the email," said technology expert Anthony Mongeluzo.
The Crypto locker virus is expected to be around for a while and many urge computer users to take precautions such as backing up files and not downloading anything that you are unsure of.
