Crypt Ghast from 'Gatecrash' revealed (Photos)

Crypt Ghast is one of the newest "Magic: The Gathering" cards revealed today from Wizards of the Coast's upcoming expert expansion set "Gatecrash."

Crypt Ghast - 3B
Creature - Spirit (Rare)
Extort
(Whenever you cast a spell, you may pay [W/B]. If you do, each opponent loses 1 life and you gain that much life.)
Whenever you tap a Swamp for mana, add B to your mana pool (in addition to the mana the land produces.)

Previewed in an article by Gavin Verhey on MagicTheGathering.com, this new spoiler packs a powerful punch.

With a potential ten mana on your fifth turn, you'll be able to cast large spells like Army of the Damned, Nicol Bolas, or Griselbrand. That's without any mana acceleration in your deck. A second turn Farseek would allow you to play Crypt Ghast on turn three and have ten mana on turn four.

One way to abuse Crypt Ghast is with X spells like Rakdos' Return, Bonfire of the Damned, and Sphinx's Revelation.

Another idea is to slow roll your opponent with blockers like Basilica Guards and get squeeze every life you can out of Extort. Because Crypt Ghast has a casting coast of four it can't be destroyed by Abrupt Decay, however it's low toughness of two makes it a prime target by Pillar of Flame. If Crypt Ghast doesn't get exiled you'll be able to get it back with Treasury Guard.

Crypt Ghast just begs to be abused in Commander decks where it'll accelerate your deck into other large spells and be able to Extort multiple opponents at the same time.

How will you use Crypt Ghast?
