Crushed velvet nails

Ciate (the brand who has trademarked Caviar Nails) is now coming out with Crushed Velvet nails (the same as suede nails using flocking powder). The Caviar nails can be recreated by using bullion beads which have been around forever and are on LovelysInstinct.com.

  • Bullion beads can be used with regular polish or embedded within gel polishes such as Shellac or Gelish.

The Crushed Velvet Manicure can be similarly recreated by using flocking powder. You can find this at Michaels Craft Store for a variety of prices. The Recollections brand is sometimes cheaper (most of the time cheaper) than the Martha Stewart brand. Flocking powder comes in sets with various colors or you can buy individual colors.

I haven't personally tried these on my nails yet because I'm still thinking of how to protect the flocking powder in water. It might get discolored or come off (bullion beads will do the same thing if not coated properly). What do you think of this "new" nail trend? You can read more about it here.
