Crunching the Cruise Numbers

Sometimes we think if we shop around enough and find the cheapest price we have found the best deal. More times than not, we learn this is not the case and that can be based on many factors.

With cruise lines, different amenities are included with your cruise - some cruise lines may include it all, while others may only include bare minimums.

I find cruisers are surprised at the actual cost of some of the 'cheap' cruises when it is all said and done. How do you escape this surprise ending?

Well, you can continue to skimp on your getaway experience so you stick with the initial cheap cruise option - and there is nothing wrong with this. Sometimes we just have a limited budget or limited time.

But, it is important to figure in the incidentals and the experiences you personally want to have in order to assess if you are choosing the right vacation. Some items I find most sneak up on vacationers are:

  • Imbibing a little more
  • Taking tours or excursions
  • Enjoying gourmet food and wine
  • Gratuities

So, do you tend to have a drink or two with meals or more throughout the day? Is stopping in port enough for you or do you want to get out and explore/experience with a little guidance? Do you like that extra gourmet steak, bottle of wine? And do you want to make sure you tip appropriately for all the service you receive?

Crunch these cruise numbers and you may have had a better option. What is the better option?

- Opt for an all-inclusive cruise if you want to get more for your money and have a higher level of service. Weigh not only the price of the cruise but the amenities that may or may not be included to determine if you are getting VALUE.
