Cruising to Egypt is not advised and hard to do

Due to the shaky political climate in Egypt, Costa Cruise Line announced they are not going to be stopping in Alexandria, the port for tour ships. From Alexandria it is about a 3-hour drive south to see the treasures of ancient Egypt. The country’s turmoil has made it unsafe to travel there. Usually, buses are escorted by security for the drive to Cairo. Many busses have armed security. usually they are dressed in 3-piece suits and blend in with the tourists.

Costa is the latest line to cancel the land of the Pharaohs. They follow other lines who have announced the same plan, including: Holland America Princess, Seabourn, MSC, AIDA and Thomson. The fear is that the Muslim Brotherhood extremists will destroy the ancient artifacts as "blasphemy" against the religion. This type of action was done by the Taliban in Afghanistan when they destroyed a large stone carving of Budda that was imbedded in a stone wall.

Travelers are advised by the US State Dept to be careful while in the Mid-east and not go at this time.

Carpe Diem!
