You can cruise to the Bahamas with the legends of rock. What a great holiday getaway would that be?
I’m talking about people like Jimi Jamison, who fronted bands like Survivor, Cobra and Target. He just returned from a highly successful German tour. Jimi Jamison’s voice lead Survivor to five top 20 songs with three reaching the top 10, songs like “The Search is Over”, “Burning Love”, “High on You”, “Is This Love” and “I can’t Hold Back.” He is featured on multiple major movie soundtracks including Rocky IV and The Karate Kid. He also co-wrote and performed “I’m Always Here,” the theme to # 1 TV show in the world, “Baywatch.”
I have been fortunate enough to hear Jimi in concert recently in Memphis at the Bad Dog Benefit show. He just blows me away. His voice is stronger than ever and he never misses a note. You don't get the feeling it’s a performance so much as a sharing experience. He is one of the most personable and genuine performers you will ever see. He enjoys performing as much as the audience enjoys hearing that incredible voice of his and it shows. He just can’t seem to wipe that boyish grin off his face when he’s singing. You can’t help but have fun at a Jimi Jamison concert.
He’s still putting out new material too. He just released a new CD with Bobby Kimball of Toto called Kimball Jamison. This guy just amazes me, his heart is as big as his talent. He is now working with the Magic Life Foundation which is a non-profit organization, devoting it's time and energy to help distressed members of the community find the relief they are searching for and deserve. There’s more to come on that.
Joining Jimi on the Legends of Rock cruise will be Alex Ligertwood who was the lead singer of Santana for over 16 years. Alex provided his unique sound on 12 Santana albums, earning Gold Records on four of them. He also co-wrote some of Santana’s songs including "Marathon", "Zebop!", "Beyond Appearances", "Viva Santana", "Shango", "Spirits Dancing in the Flesh", "Milagro", and "Sacred Fire." Alex is also known for his recording and touring as part of the reformed Average White Band.
Mickey Thomas will also be along for the ride. Mickey is known as the lead singer of Starship and can be heard on their hits “Jane”, “We Build This City”, “Sara” and “Nothing's Gonna Stop Us Now”. Even before he joined Starship, his voice was known nationwide as the lead singer on the Elvin Bishop Group’s “Fooled Around and Fell in Love” from their album Struttin' My Stuff.
One of my favorite groups of the late sixties and the early seventies was Three Dog Night. One of the three lead singers will also be on The Legends of Rock Cruise, Chuck Negron. He was my favorite of the three. You’ll remember their hits “Easy To Be Hard”, "One", "Eli's Coming", "Mama Told Me (Not to Come)", "Joy to the World" and "Celebrate" among twenty one hit singles, including eleven Top Tens, and twelve consecutive gold albums from 1969 to 1975.
Think about that, one cruise featuring classic rock’s biggest names, the original voices of hits by Survivor, Santana, Starship and Three Dog Night.
The Legends of Rock Cruise sets sail on December 4th for seven fun filled days with the stars you have always wanted to meet. There will be seven nightly performances and the cost starts at just $979 per person. Tickets are still available if you hurry; the line starts right behind me.
