Ketut Pujayasa, 28, a cruise ship worker aboard the Holland America Line vessel MS Nieuw Amsterdam, admitted to the FBI that he raped a female passenger on the ship, and then tried to throw her overboard during a Valentine's Day cruise that left Fort Lauderdale on Feb. 9.

“The incident occurred early Friday morning in international waters off the coast of Roatan, Honduras,” according to a Feb. 19 report from Fox News.

The attacker was taken into custody by the FBI on Feb. 16 when the ship returned to Fort Lauderdale.

Pujayasa, a citizen of Indonesia, said he beat and raped the woman because she disrespected him.

"Pujayasa stated that the passenger's comment of 'son of a bitch' was offensive to himself and his parents. He was angry and upset the rest of the day," FBI Special Agent David Nunez wrote in his report.

Pujayasa let himself into the woman’s stateroom using his master key.

The 31-year-old female victim from the U.S. told the authorities that she was punched, strangled, and raped in her stateroom.

According to the criminal complaint:

"[The woman] then continued to fight for her life by all means available including striking Pujayasa's exposed genitals as well as utilizing a corkscrew in an attempt to stab him," agents said Pujayasa told them, according to the South Florida Sun-Sentinel.

According to the reports, Pujayasa beat the woman with a curling iron and a laptop computer during the vicious attack. The victim, identified in the criminal complaint only by her initials, said she passed out at least once during the beating.

Pujayasa tried throwing the woman overboard. The victim managed to escape and sought help from another passenger aboard the ship.

The attacker, still naked from the waist down, ran from his victim’s stateroom into another occupied stateroom – ultimately escaping into the interior portion of the ship where he turned himself in to the ship’s staff, who detained him until the ship returned to port on Sunday.

Officials with the cruise line said that Pujayasa has been terminated from his position with the company.

The former cabin boy has been charged with aggravated sexual abuse and attempted murder.
