Buffalo, NY - An report outlining practices at the Niagara County SPCA reveals evidence of cruelty and suffering for those entrusted to the organization's care.
Topping the list of disturbing findings is the following - allegations that Executive Director John A. Faso was not aware of proper euthanasia practices.
According to the report, conducted by the Erie County SPCA, there was no standardized method of killing - tragically, many of the animals who were "euthanized" were subjected to a particularly painful method known as "heart-stick".
Heart stick is as brutal as it sounds - a fatal dose of medication is injected directly into the heart muscle.
The report also revealed evidence of standard operating procedures, un-trained staff, poor record keeping and an overall lack of structure.
What the future holds for this organization remains to be seen. There is talk of restructuring with new leadership.
