Cru Film kick-off workshop at UMHB

The Cru Film Program at the University of Mary Hardin-Baylor in Central TX offers many workshops and events that are open to the public. The public is currently invited to a Cru Film, fall, kick-off seminar,  Saturday, August 20, 11- 5 p.m. in Room 207 in the Parker Academic Center at the University of Mary Hardin-Baylor. An optional, dutch treat dinner gathering is also available after the workshop. Step Rowe of Keene Studios, who has been actively involved in the Cru Film Program as a professional film acting coach, is the presenter.  Step’s seminar, THE CALL OF THE ACTOR, will cover acting and exploring gifts that lead to positive living and working in the film industry and beyond.

There are many factors that draw people to pursue a career in acting.  Identifying the “motivation” can be the key to removing those blocks that get in the way of a truthful performance.  Acting is seldom just about the talent, however, and surviving the roller coaster of successes and failures in this business is a challenge.  This seminar will introduce the concepts that have helped hundreds find a healthy path to personal success.

“Many very gifted individuals believe that they have something to apologize for when they find themselves desiring a career in the industry.  Our world has indeed created a wealth of selfish motivations for becoming an actor.  I believe that we have been blessed with unique opportunities to reach out and share our most cherished beliefs in an unusually intimate way.  Keeping sight of this goal is the first step to a satisfied, faith-filled actor” - Step

Step has over 30 years experience in the performing arts and has experienced everything from directing award-winning theatre programs to producing and directing films.   She has a BFA in theatre and teaching certification from the University of Texas at Austin, as well as years of on-set and behind-the-camera experience.  As an actress, she has booked print, commercials, industrials, television, hosting, short and feature film roles.  As an industry leader, she has worked in casting, writing, directing, producing and film supervising (UMHB).

Step’s students have succeeded in studio and independent feature films, Off-Broadway and touring shows, as well as daytime and primetime TV.  Former students have gone on to Los Angeles and New York and succeeded in long-term acting, broadcast, and music careers. Veterans of Step’s teaching and current students include:  Friday Night Lights sensation Madison Burge – “Becky” (season 4 and 5), Voice of FOX comedy and Emmy winner Chad Brannon – also “Zander” on General Hospital, Eli Young Band lead singer Michael Eli, Award-winning journalist and ABC reporter Sonia Azad, Theatre pro Spencer Plachy, local film star Noell Coet, and hundreds of others.

Come spend an afternoon with Step in Belton!  The seminar is open to the publicand for all ages.
