A 48-year-old Tennessee woman who confessed to killing her 73-year-old companion of 15 years with a crowbar told detective Lucas Fuller that she called the "dope man" first and bought $80 worth of crack cocaine.
On Tues., Feb. 5 Laura Lee Morgan was in court hearing that confession repeated to a judge in the murder case. And detective Fuller says not only did she call the dope man before the kill; she called him afterwards too according to the Chattanoogan.com.
Based on her statement after the Jan. 26 killing, Morgan says that her boyfriend, victim James Masingill, was addicted to scratch-off lottery playing and left their home to buy some tickets, which made her angry.
When he returned she informed him of her crack cocaine purchase and how she had smoked it all in his absence, which made him mad at her. That's when she says he got a crowbar to use on her, but that she turned it on him instead.
Detective Fuller paints a different picture based upon the crime scene and the suspect's lack of defensive wounds, pointing out that the home walls and recliner where the victim lay were covered in blood when he entered the scene that night. Yet there was no sign of a struggle, as she alleged.
Morgan admitted that she called the dope man again after the bludgeoning murder episode and had him bring her more crack, this time $200 worth, which she smoked before calling police to report the crime.
Law enforcement tried to get the suspect to name the dope dealer, but she refused. The victim's face was mangled from the 17 blows dealt it according to police, and the suspect, who is a double amputee with no legs, isn't pointing the finger of blame at the dealer for the murder.
The judge in the case feels the suspect should face first degree murder charges and aggravated robbery ones as well.
