Social Media has taken hold of the CrossFit workout. Participants can be seen complaining about glutes and hamstrings hurting and blisters popping up on hands. But the hurt is worth the outcome and the outcome is worth the sweat.
CrossFit mixes different fitness principles: Olympic weight lifting, gymnastics, and body weight exercises. Not only will the combination create muscle confusion, but also team camaraderie is created and a does of encouraging competition.
The CrossFit gyms may look primitive and basic, but the program introduces online workout programs and nation-wide statistical tracking. Participants can post their workout routine and accomplishments and see how it fares. This introduction of technology more then compensates for the basic equipment and no nonsense attitude- No digital elliptical with TV’s in these gyms!
CrossFit is highly recommended and allows for different skill levels. Participants are expected to commit to the program because it is a team atmosphere. Entry-level sessions can be found in local CrossFit gyms for a discount rate or free. The workout is less concerned with body image and more concerned with how well participants work within the team and how mental strength can be built.
This workout is not for the faint of heart or the occasional walker. This is a high intensity, high result routine. Participants push one another and competition ensues during every session. Expect a change in lifestyle with this “cult-like” program. Once an individual starts, there usually is no quitting.
“Tough, but worth it.” – local participant
