Cross Traffic out of the Breeders’ Cup (Video)

Cross Traffic will not be in the field at the Grade I Breeders’ Cup Classic this year because he injured himself in a misstep at the start of the September 28 Grade I Jockey Club Gold Cup at Belmont Park. He sustained a minor shin injury.

General manager of GoldMark Farm, Todd Quast, said in a statement issued October 2,

It is very unfortunate for this to happen at this time of the year because this will prevent him from competing in the Breeder's Cup Classic. We will bring him back to GoldMark to evaluate him and based on those findings make decisions regarding his future.

Cross Traffic, 4 years old, is sired by Unbridled’s Song out of Stop Traffic by Cure the Blues was bred in Kentucky by the Diamond A Racing Corporation, becoming a $300,000 purchase at the 2010 Fasig-Tipton New York Saratoga select yearling sale. He was consigned by Taylor Made Sales Agency who acted as agent.

He started out his racing career at Gulfstream Park, and accomplished two fine starts. He had several good races but by far his best effort came in the Grade I Whitney Invitational Handicap with John Velazquez in the irons beating out Successful Dan, Mucho Macho Man and Fort Larned.

Cross Traffic’s record is three wins and two seconds from six starts. His total earnings are $687,967.
