Cross Country race offers a change of pace from road racing

If you’re tired of road running or want to give yourself a new challenge, consider running the West Texas Running Club’s Toys for Tots Cross-Country race on Saturday, December 8th. This race offers a 1-mile option for kids ages 4-9 and a 4-mile race for runners 10 and over.
This race takes place at Mae Simmons with the 1-mile race beginning at 9:30am and the 4-mile race beginning at 10am. The kids race is an out and back course on the flat part of Mae Simmons. Parents are encouraged to run with their children (registration isn’t required for parents accompanying their children). The 4-mile race is a challenging multi-loop course full of hills and uneven terrain. If you’re running this course for the first time, don’t expect to meet your road running times. It can be a hard course for people who aren’t used to cross-country or trail running, but as long as you start out conservatively, you shouldn’t have a problem. And you may even fall in love with the challenge!
Registration is $5 for running club members and children under 13 and $15 for non-members. Online registration expires Thursday, December 6th at 6pm. There will be no race day registration. Packet pickup will occur prior to 9:30am at the Mae Simmons Community Center (yes, there is somewhere with heat to hang out before and after the race!)
Marines will be on hand at packet pickup to collect donated toys for the Toys for Tots program. Volunteers for the race are also needed.
This is a unique opportunity for Lubbock running so I hope you can take advantage of it!
