Richard Martinez’s rbi single in the top of the sixth gave the Cougars a 6-5 road win at Summer Creek on Tuesday night, March 18, 2014 in a key District 19-4A match-up.
C.J. Jackson put the Summer Creek Bulldogs on the board early with a two run single in the bottom of the first.
Crosby left the bases loaded in the first but in the second the Cougars made the most of their scoring opportunity. An error, an rbi single by Mario Seguera and a bases loaded walk to Sean Bergeron gave Crosby a 3-2 lead.
Sequera ‘s perfectly executed squeeze bunt in the fourth extended the lead to 4-2.
A three run fifth on the strength of a ground out, and rbi hits from Jackson and Kamerone Wheeler gave the Bulldogs a 5-4 lead, setting the stage for Martinez’s heroics in the sixth.
A one out Colton Watley single drove home Justin Cegielski with the game tying run off Summer Creek reliever James Bazan. Martinez then drilled a one strike pitch into right field scoring Sequera who had reached two batters earlier with his third hit of the night.
Chase Stripling who relieved Austin Hearn on the mound in the sixth struck out the side in the seventh to nail down Crosby’s ninth win of the season.
Crosby and Summer Creek meet again on Friday, March 21, 2014 at Cougar Field in Crosby for the back end of the home and home series. First pitch is scheduled for 6p.m.
