According to TSN on Monday, Canadian Olympic gold medalist Sidney Crosby was named the second star in the National Hockey League for the week from December 16-22.

Crosby, who is expected to lead the Canadian men's hockey team again at the 2014 Olympic Winter Games in Sochi, notched two goals and six assists in four games. The Penguins beat the Toronto Maple Leafs 3-1 Monday, the New York Rangers 4-3 in a shootout on Wednesday, the Minnesota Wild 5-2 on Thursday and the Calgary Flames 4-3 on Saturday.

The fact that the Penguins won four games this past week was impressive because of the number of injuries the franchise has to their defense. Pittsburgh's offensive luck ran out on Monday night though as they were spanked 5-0 to Ottawa.

Chris Stewart of the St. Louis Blues was named the first star and Matt Duchene of the Colorado Avalanche was named the third star.

At the 2010 Olympic Winter Games in Vancouver, Crosby scored the golden goal as Canada beat the United States 3-2 in the gold medal game.
