Now through March, Bistro du Midi (formerly the location of Biba) on Boylston St. in Boston is serving Croque Monsieurs and cocktails every Tuesday from 5-10 p.m. at the bar. Each Croque Monsieur is $5, and the specialty cocktail to pair this comfort food is Par Avion, made by Bistro du Midi's Todd Lipman. The recipe:
Par Avion (Bistro du Midi's Todd Lipman)
3/4 oz. Old Overholt Rye
3/4 oz. Aperol
3/4 oz. Averna
3/4 oz. Fresh Lemon Juice
Served Down with an Orange Round
The Croque Monsieur, much like a French version of American grilled cheese --- but better --- is served three ways: there's a vegetarian version, a salmon version and the original --- all versions are a tasty warm way to get through the cold of winter. Tuesdays after work are a great time to take a seat at the bar or at a nearby table and catch up with dear friends or make new ones in a beautiful atmosphere with great food and drink.
