Crony Capitalism: Joe Biden's son joins board of directors for Ukrainian gas co.

Most Americans remember the recent events in the state of Nevada where Bureau of Land Management agents squared off over the grazing rights of Cliven Bundy on federally managed land. As news and information progressed for this event it was discovered that not only was Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid intricately involved in a land deal with China that was the root of the stand-off, but that Reid's son was also a lobbyist for ENN Energy Group who was allowed to purchase the land for far below face value.

Yet, this form of crony capitalism is not being limited to just the Senate Majority Leader. On May 13, it was announced that Vice President Joe Biden's son, Hunter Biden, was being elected to the Board of Directors for Ukraine's largest gas company, and once again brings forth questions on whether U.S. involvement in Ukraine is not about standing up for Democracy, but to secure oil and gas rights for U.S. companies.

R. Hunter Biden will be in charge of the Holdings’ legal unit and will provide support for the Company among international organizations. On his new appointment, he commented: “Burisma’s track record of innovations and industry leadership in the field of natural gas means that it can be a strong driver of a strong economy in Ukraine. As a new member of the Board, I believe that my assistance in consulting the Company on matters of transparency, corporate governance and responsibility, international expansion and other priorities will contribute to the economy and benefit the people of Ukraine.”

The Chairman of the Board of Directors of Burisma Holdings, Mr. Alan Apter, noted: “The company’s strategy is aimed at the strongest concentration of professional staff and the introduction of best corporate practices, and we’re delighted that Mr. Biden is joining us to help us achieve these goals.” - Zerohedge

Conspiracy theorists for years have decried that most U.S. led conflicts have been undertaken for the acquisition of oil and other resources. Whether it was in Iraq over their use of the Euro instead of the Petro-dollar for oil sales, or in Libya, where the U.S. and City of London confiscated the gold holdings of the Libyan government, at the root of many overt and covert operations by the U.S. in recent times is the acquisition of a nation's resources, and not their promotion into a Democratic form of government.

America's oil and gas interests appear directly tied to the U.S. aided overthrow of Ukraine's duly elected government. and were abundantly clear as one of the primary objectives for the insurgency. In December of last year, Assistant Secretary of State Victoria Nuland gave a speech at the National Press Club citing how the United States had invested over $5 billion into Ukraine to aid in their stability, with the speech and event being sponsored by none other than Chevron Oil.

In just the past month, America has seen two sons of high ranking public officials being directly involved in the corporate interests of companies that are benefiting from the use of armed agents of the Federal government. First in the support of a private Chinese company over the rights of a private citizen, and now, as a lobbyist for a gas company in a country that we have sent CIA, FBI, and perhaps even Blackwater security to assure the defense of oil and gas distribution.

These two instances, along with President Obama's former scandals involving loans and grants to campaign contributors in the Green Energy sector, validate that our economic system at the highest levels has evolved into a taxpayer funded form of crony capitalism.
