A crocodile under the bed may seem like an average child’s nighttime frights. Under the bed of course is where all of the nocturnal nasties hang out. For one man spending the night in a Zimbabwe hunting lodge, he awoke to find something quite scary had been listening to him sleep: An 8-foot crocodile was under his bed, says UPI on Sept. 8.
Guy Whittall – a name known around Zimbabwe – is the 40-year-old former captain of Zimbabwe's cricket team. He awoke, got up, and somehow never noticed a croc the length of his bed was directly underneath. That is, until the Zimbabwean cricketer heard the maid's terrified screams.
Whittall ran back to his room and was stunned to find an enormous crocodile nestled quietly under his bed. He immediately started to think about what could have happened, knowing crocs are silent killers.
“The really disconcerting thing about the whole episode is the fact that I was sitting on the edge of the bed that morning, bare foot and just centimeters away from the croc,” Whittall said.
Whittall took on the task that most hotel guests are not required to do during their stay – to pull the crocodile out from under the bed. Between Whittall's bravery and some of the hotel’s staff members, they managed to extract the beast and return it to its natural habitat – outside and nowhere near the Humani hotel guest’s slippers.
“I just remember thinking goodness gracious, that's one for the books. I'm pretty sure everyone in Humani checks under their bed before going to sleep now anyway,” Whittall said.
