Gauge Rows 1-7 = 4 inches. The fabric is stretchy

Sizes: Extra small-- 12 inches x 40 inches

Small-- 12 inches x 44inches

Medium-- 12inches x 48inches

Large--- 16inches x 52inches

Extra large-- 20inches x 52inches

Stitches:

Shell= (2 dc, ch 2, 2 dc).

Shell in shell=
In center ch-2 space of shell, work (2 dc, ch 2, 2 dc).

Beginning Shell-(beg shell in shell): (ch 3, dc, ch 2, 2 dc ) all in same space.

dtr-double treble : Yarn over hook 3 times, insert hook into st and pull up a loop, [yarn over and pull through 2 loops] 4 times.

[ ]-do step in brackets as many times as indicated.

Materials:

Light weight worsted yarn. I used TLC Cotton Plus Yarn: 51% cotton

49% acrylic in the 100g (3.5 oz) skeins:

You will need 2 skeins for sizes extra small and small, 3 skeins for medium and 4 skeins for large and extra large

Crochet Hook size H (5.00mm) and I(5.5mm)

Cord or ribbon 3 times your waist size for the closure or you can crochet a chain using 3 strands of yarn

Shells and Squares Stitch (multiple of 16 sts + 4)

Note: Skirt is a rectangle worked side to side. The starting chain is the length of the skirt from the waist down.

Extra Small Ch 52 ---You will have 3 squares across with 9 repeats for the width

Small Ch 52--- You will have 3 Squares across with10 pattern repeats

Med Ch 52--- You will have 3 squares across with 11 pattern repeats

Large Ch 68 ---You will have 4 squares across with 12 pattern repeats

Extra large Ch 84-- You will have 5 squares across with 13 pattern repeats

Row 1: With I hook, ch 52,(68, 84) switch to H hook, 2 dc in the 3rd ch from the hook, ch 2, 2 dc into next ch, ch 2,*[ sk 2 ch, dc into next ch, ch 2] 4 times, , sk 2 ch, 2 dc into next ch, ch 2, 2 dc into next ch; rep from * to end. Ch 1, turn.

Row 2: Sl st in the next dc and in the ch-2 sp, beg shell in shell, *ch 4, [ dtr into next dc, sk 2 ch] 4 times, ch 4, make shell in next ch-2 sp; rep from * to end, 1 dc into top of turning ch, turn.

Row 3: Sl st in the next dc and in the ch-2 sp, beg shell in shell *ch 4, 1 sc into each of next 4 dtr, ch 4, shell-in-shell; rep from * to end, 1 dc into top of turning ch, turn.

Row 4 - 5: Sl st in the next dc and in the ch-2 sp, beg shell in shell, *ch 4, 1 sc into each of next 4 sc, ch 4, shell-in-shell; rep from * to end, 1 dc into top of turning ch, turn.

Row 6: Sl st in the next dc and in the ch-2 sp, work beg shell in shell *[1 dtr into next sc, ch 2] 3 times, 1 dtr into next sc, shell-in-shell; rep from * to end, 1 dc into top of turning ch, turn.

Row 7: Sl st in the next dc and in the ch-2 sp, work beg shell in shell, *[ch 2, 1 dc into next dtr] 4 times, ch 2, shell-in-shell; rep from * to end, 1 dc into top of turning ch, turn.

Rep Rows 2 - 7 for pattern repeats to correspond with your size. Fasten off and weave in ends.

Finishing: Cut cord, I used suede lacing, 3 times the length of your waist. Weave cord in and out of the beginning shells. Adjust to fit around waist. View the slide show for photos.
