This fun and clever gift will make any recipient giggle. With a simple fold and a few pieces of ribbon woven in and out of strategic places, turn two squares, crocheted in the double crochet stitch, into a pair of pants! Two colors of yarn and a color changing technique give these dishcloths a circus look.

Size: Each dishcloth = 8"x8"

Pants = 5 1/2" x6 1/2"

Materials:

100% 4 ply cotton yarn, worsted weight

l oz Light Green (Main Color-MC)

l oz Orange Variegated (Contrasting Color-CC)

Crochet Hook Size: H (5mm)

Yarn Needle

30 inches of 1/4 inch yellow ribbon

Optional: Card stock and printer for poem or neatly hand print on a piece of paper 3 l/2" x a3 l/2"

String for tying on poem

Gauge: 4 edc = l" 3 edc rows= 2"

Pattern Notes: Beginning ch 3 does not count as a st.

Work over color not in use

Special Stitch: extended double crochet (edc): yo, insert hook in next st, yarn over, draw loop through, yarn over draw through one loop, (yarn over, draw through 2 loops) 2 times.

Yarn over, insert hook in next st, yarn over, draw loop through, yarn over, draw through one loop, yarn over, draw through 2 loops, yarn over, drop old color, draw through 2 loops with new color.

Make 2

Row 1: With MC, ch 31, edc in 4th ch from the hook, edc in each of next 2 chs, edc color change to CC in next ch, edc in each of next 3 chs, edc color change to MC in next ch, * edc in each of next 3 ch, edc color change to CC in next ch, edc in each of next 3 ch, edc color change to MC in next ch, rep from * 1 more time, edc in each of next 3 chs, edc color change to CC in last ch, ch 3 turn. (14 blocks of MC, 13 blocks CC) ,

Rows 2-11: Work in pattern as established, following chart,

Fasten off both colors and weave in ends,

Finishing:

Cut one 12" piece and three 6" inch pieces of ribbon.

Fold each dishcloth in half placing each half side by side with open edges facing each other in the middle. Thread 6" ribbon through yarn needle and weave through row 2 of first cloth.

Repeat with a second piece of 6" inch ribbon on second cloth. Pull each ribbon to gather and tie in a bow. This forms the bottom cuff of each pant leg.

With 12" piece of ribbon, weave .through Row 10, beginning at the center left front, continue around connecting both dishcloths in the back, continue to the center right front.

Gather ribbon and tie into a bow, This forms the waist of pants.

With rem 6" of ribbon, beginning at center left front on row8, insert ribbon through first and last st of first cloth and last and first stitch of second cloth to form the fly.

Attach Poem:

I know what this looks like

But here's the surprise

These pants will transform

Right in front of your eyes.

Just pull out the ribbons

And as quick as a wink

You'll have 2 new washcloths

To hang on your sink!
