One handled purse will have you dangling! If you look through the fashion catalogs or go to trendy boutiques, you'll see that highly contrasting blocks of color are being used as a statement. I thought I would take this concept and work it into a wristlet, a small purse that fits perfectly over your wrist.

Finished size: 6 inches high, not including strap Circumference is 15 inches.Flattened, about 7 1/2 inches wide.

Gauge: Rnds 1-6 =2 inches across. Don't worry too much about this, just use the hook and yarn you like and work firmly but not overly tight .

Materials:
4 ply, worsted weight yarn, such as Red Heart Super Saver or Caron Pounder. You will need 1 ounce each of two contrasting colors, Main Color (MC) and Contrasting Color (CC)
Aluminum crochet hook H/5.0mm

Stitch marker. I use a scrap piece of yarn and flip it back and forth.

Your usual crochet finishing supplies.

Stitches: chain, single crochet, double crochet slip stitch, popcorn
Abbreviations: ch - chain; sc - single crochet; dc- double crochet; st(s) - stitch(es); together-tog

Special Stitches:

Color change popcorn stitch:

Work 5 double crochet ( dc ) stitches in the designated stitch; drop the loop from your hook;

insert the hook from front to back under the top 2 loops of the first dc of the group;

take hold of the dropped loop with your hook and pull it through the stitch. Ch 1 tightly to close.

Drop yarn, and pull up a loop with new color Color change popcorn completed.

Color change sc:

Insert hook under both loops of next stitch; yarn over; pull up a loop, two loops now on hook; drop first color, pull op a loop with new color, leave a 2 inch tail; complete sc with 2nd color; You should have one loop of new color on your hook. Tug on both strands of yarn to tighten.

Sc 2 sts tog:

Insert hook into first sc, pull up a loop, 2 loops on hook; insert hook into next sc, pull up loop, 3 loops on hook; yarn over and pull through all three loops, decrease made.

Note: Pattern is worked around in a spiral without joining. Place stitch marker in first st of each round and move it up from round to round.

Instructions:

Rnd 1: With MC ch 2, 8 sc in 2nd ch from hook (8 sc)

Rnd 2: 2 sc in each st around. (16 sc)

Rnd 3: (sc in next st, 2 sc in next st,) 8 times (24 sc)

Rnd 4: (sc in next 2 sts 2 sc in next st,) 8 times. (32 sc)

Rnd 5: (sc in next 3 sts 2 sc in next st,) 8 times. (40 sc)

Rnd 6: (sc in next 4 sts 2 sc in next st,) 8 times (48 sc)

Rnd 6: (sc in next 4 sts 2 sc in next st,) 8 times (48)

Rnd 7 thru 11: sc in each sc (48 sc)

Rnd 12: (This is the color change and popcorn Rnd. Work over all unused yarn.) *sc in each of next 2 sc, color change sc to CC in next st, color change popcorn in next st, (remember to ch 1 to lock st, pull tight, pull up a loop with MM to change color), rep from * 11 more times, , popcorn in last st, ch 1 to lock st, pull tight, pull up a loop with MM to change color. You will have 12 white popcorns with 3 red sc stitches in between (36 MC sc and 12 CC popcorns)

Rnd 13: *with MC, sc in each sc, sc in top of popcorn, rep from * around, but in the last popcorn, work a sc color change to CC. (48 sc)

Rnd 14: With CC, sc in each sc (48)

Rnd 15: (This is the next popcorn round. Popcorns will be off-set from the other popcorn row). Sc in first sc,color change sc in next st, color change popcorn in next st, (remember to ch 1 to lock st, pull tight, pull up a loop with CC to change color), *sc in each of next 2 sc, sc color change in next st, color change popcorn in next st, rep from around, ending with sc in last 2 sc.( 36 CC sc and 12 MC popcorns)

Rnd 16: *with CC, sc in each of next 3 sc, sc in top of popcorn, rep from * around. (48 sc)

Rnd 17-20: sc in each sc. (48)

Rnd 21: sc in each of next 10 sc, ch 4, skip next 4 sc, sc in each of next 22 sc, ch 32, sc in rem 12 sc (44 sc and a ch-4 and a ch-32)

Rnd 22: (sc 2 sts tog) 2 times, sc in each of next 6 sc, sc in each of next 4 chs, sc in each of next 6 sc, (sc 2 sts tog) 4 times, sc in each of next 8, sc in each of next 32 chs, sc in each of next 8 sc, (sc 2 sts tog) 2 times, sl st in first st. Fasten off.

Rnd:23: With CC sl st in each sc around. Fasten off and weave in ends.
