Bath and body items always make a great gift. You can make the present more personal by crocheting a bath puff for that special someone. Made from inexpensive, readily available cotton yarn, the puff is super soft and absorbent and will last much longer than those store bought nylon varieties. The yarn comes in a multitude of colors so you are sure to find something perfect for your project. Check out Michaels for a great selection of 100% cotton yarn, such as Lily's Sugar 'n Cream. The pattern for the bath puff can be found here.

Pair your puff with a luxurious bottle of bath and shower gel and you're all set. There are many sources for bath products here in the Reno area, including Bath and Body Works inside Legends at the Sparks Marina, The Body Shop in Meadowood Mall, or Sephora at The Summit Sierra.

Or, take it one step further and make your own bath salts or shower gel. It is fairly simple and cost effective in the long run. Here are some recipes to get you started:

Homemade bath salts: In a large glass bowl, combine 1 cup Epsom salt, 1/4 cup Dead Sea salt, 2 tablespoons baking soda, 2-3 drops glycerin, about 6 drops essential oil fragrance of your choice, and several drops liquid food coloring (if desired) Mix well, then divide into decorative jars, muslin bags, or other containers.

Homemade shower gel:  Combine 1 cup pure liquid Castile soap and 1/2 cup water in a bowl. Stir well, then add 2 teaspoons salt and several drops of essential oil in the fragrance of your choice. Mix well before pouring into containers of your choice.

All of the ingredients can be found at craft or health food stores. Puritan's Pride is a good online source for essential oils.

Once you decorate your container of homemade bath gel or salts and add the bath puff, your gift is ready to go, and your friend or loved one is sure to feel pampered.
