The jury appears to be out on the trailer 2K Sports released last week of their upcoming MLB 2K13:
It’s the same game as last year.
Critics from all over the web voiced their harsh words on the video this week, which casts even more doubt on the quality of the title, which has announced less than two months ago.
“I don't see much in this video that suggests the game will be that different from last year, and for sure the announced feature set and lack of marketing communicate the same thing,” Kotaku’s Owen Good said. “I still see the same animations, same flat/no-contrast lighting in shadows, same everything. All of this is replay camera, too, so keep that in mind.”
ESPN’s Jon Robinson failed to see what the new trailer adds to the formula as well.
“MLB 2K13” releases March 5, and 2K Sports still refuses to show us the game, Robinson said. “Maybe this trailer explains why as it looks, well, exactly like “MLB 2K12.”
To be fair, Good and Robinson didn’t even mention that some of the players’ faces and expressions lacked the definition and emotion you’d expect from a next generation sports title. For a split second, the trailer takes you back to the days of Hardball ’99.
Operation Sports also reported this week that 2K will not release a demo of the game, which means gamers will have no way to try the game before it’s released.
