Jeff and Hillary Whittington are what every parent should aspire to be; according to a May 30 article in Hollywood Life. The Whittington’s are being praised for their unwavering love for their child Ryland. Ryland is transgender.

There are a number of misconceptions surrounding gender. According to Wikipedia, transgender is when the mental sexual orientation does not match the physical one. It is someone who has defined who they are in terms of gender; but the physical alignment is not there. They may identify with one of many titles (e.g. Heterosexual; bisexual); or none at all.

Some studies have shown that people who are transgender identify who they are at a very young age. According to an article in the LA Times, 41% of all people who identified themselves as transgender have attempted suicide at least once.

Christians interviewed for this article and on this subject struggled to articulate a Biblical argument to support their position. According to the Bible, there was period of time when Angels gave up their place in heaven to take for themselves earthly women. Some Christians believe that these scriptures support the belief that people can be born gay or transgender.

Other Christians were not convinced that the answers and explanations offered were correct or believable. “We fall back on the scripture that says we were born in sin and shaped in iniquity. The same Bible says we were born in His image, and fearfully and wonderfully made. Is it so easy to believe that anything outside of our own norms is a function of sin? Didn’t Jesus heal a man blind from birth and state that the blindness was an opportunity to praise God? If I were born with 9 toes; would we be talking about sin?

More and more things are being attributed to science, and not training. Do you believe that transgenderism is a learned behavior or a taught one?
